Call for papers

 

Event:  13–15 April 2014 

Location: Alba Iulia, Romania 

Organizer: “1 Decembrie 1918” University - History, Archaeology and Museology Department

In close connection with the objectives of the project From Inhumation to Cremation in Romanian Neolithic and Eneolithic. New Archaeological Evidence, Burial Practices, and Osteological Approach (PNII-RU-TE-2012-3-0461, no. 53/30.04.2013, Principal Investigator Dr. Mihai Gligor), the research team members warmly invite scholars to submit proposals for the international conference entitled:

 

 “Archaeothanatology: an Interdisciplinary Approach on Death in Prehistory”

 

We welcome proposals for presentations (15-20 minutes in length) on the following topics:

1. Burial context and characteristics of the funerary deposits;

2. Corpse decomposition and taphonomic processes;

3. Mortuary practices and the disposal of the bodies;

4. Dismembered and scattered human remains;

5. Missing, presumed dead. Where are people buried?

 

Working language: English

Please include the following information with your proposal: a) full title of your paper; b) abstract (200-250 words) together with an image (plan, photo or drawing); c) name of the author(s), position, institutional affiliation.

Deadline for proposals: 13 March 2014

Notification of acceptance: 15 March 2014

Registration fee: 50 Euros.

Student fee: 30 Euros.

The registration fee includes: meeting materials, accommodation for 3 nights at the University Hotel, lunches and dinners at the University Restaurant, breakfasts and coffee breaks. 

Accepted speakers will pay the registration fee after the admission notification.

Publication: selected papers presented at the conference will be published in Annales Universitatis Apulensis (18/II), the Department journal, indexed by several scientific databases (CEEOL, Scopus). 

Deadline: 1 September 2014.
